We built a national IMEI checker from a Detroit counter.

Every phone that crosses this counter gets its IMEI checked. We hold 254,984 device codes ourselves rather than paying a lookup service per query, which is why the checker at smocell.com/imei is free with no account and no limit — for anyone, anywhere, whether or not they ever set foot on Livernois. It grows automatically as new handsets appear. We think that is a better use of the data than a paywall.
