Terms & Conditions
The plain-English rules for buying from us, selling to us, and having a phone repaired. Last updated September 25, 2026.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by SMOCELL, the trading name of Smooth Communication, a phone shop at 15300 Livernois Ave, Detroit, MI 48238. You can reach us on (313) 340-9621 or at info@smocell.com. "We", "us" and "our" mean that business. "You" means the person using this site or dealing with our shop.
By using this website or doing business with us, you agree to these terms.
2. Prices and quotes on this website
The prices shown by our sell and repair tools are estimates based on what you tell us. They are not a binding offer and not a contract.
Every quote is subject to us physically examining the device. If the device matches your description, the quote stands. If it doesn't — a crack you didn't mention, a failed component, a different storage size, an activation lock still switched on — we will tell you what we found and give you a revised number. You are free to decline it and keep your phone.
Prices change as the market changes. A quote you saw on a previous visit does not carry forward.
3. Selling a phone to us
When you sell us a device, you confirm all of the following:
- The device is yours to sell, free of any loan, lease, installment plan or unpaid balance that would give someone else a claim on it.
- It has never been reported lost or stolen and is not blocked or blacklisted by any carrier — a "clean IMEI".
- You have removed the passcode and signed out of iCloud / Find My (or the Google account on an Android device). We cannot bypass activation lock and cannot buy a device that still has it.
- You will show valid photo identification.
We verify the IMEI of every device against lost, stolen and blocked databases. If a device fails that check we will not buy it, and we may be required to report it and to retain it.
Payment is made once the device passes inspection — cash, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal or check. Once payment is made and you have handed over the device, the sale is final and ownership passes to us.
There is no cooling-off period, no return window and no right to buy the device back. We are not obliged to sell it back to you at any price, and once it has left our counter we may no longer have it. If you are not certain you want to sell, do not take the payment — ask us to hand the phone back instead, and we will, with no hard feelings and no charge.
4. Erase your own data
Back up and erase your device before you sell it. While we wipe every device we take in, you are responsible for your own data, and we are not liable for anything left on a device you hand over.
5. Mailing a phone to us
If you are not near Detroit you may ship a device to us from anywhere in the United States. In that case:
- Start it on this website. Choose “ship it” when you request your offer and you will be issued a sale number. There is no need to telephone us first — the sale is recorded automatically and we are expecting your package by that number.
- We provide and pay for the label that sends the device to us. You will not be asked to pay postage to get your phone to us.
- Risk of loss stays with the sender until the package reaches us. A prepaid label is not insurance. Use the label we issue, keep your receipt when you hand the package over, and if the value concerns you, buy insurance at the counter — only the person posting a package can insure it.
- We inspect on arrival and tell you what we found before any payment is made.
- If you accept, we pay by check, Zelle, Cash App or PayPal — whichever you selected.
- If you decline our offer and would rather keep the device, return postage is at your cost. We will tell you what it comes to and get your go-ahead before anything is sent, and we will keep the phone safe in the meantime.
- Offers hold for the period stated on your sale. A device arriving after that date is re-priced at the value on the day it arrives, and you are free to decline — on the same return terms as above.
6. Repairs
Diagnostics are free and carry no obligation. Repair prices quoted online cover the specific repair named, parts and labor included.
- If we open a device and find a further fault, we stop and contact you before doing anything else. No additional work is carried out without your agreement.
- Back up your device before any repair. Screen, battery and port repairs do not normally erase data, but every repair carries risk and we cannot be responsible for data loss.
- Devices already damaged by liquid, or previously opened or repaired elsewhere, may not be repairable and may fail during the attempt. We will say so before starting.
- We need your passcode to test a repair properly. Without it we cannot confirm the work.
- Repairs are guaranteed for 60 days on the part we replaced and our workmanship. That guarantee does not cover new physical damage, liquid damage, or work done by someone else afterwards.
Unclaimed devices left for repair. When you leave a device with us for repair, you authorize us to sell or dispose of it if you have not collected it within 35 days of the day we tell you it is ready. We apply anything we recover against our repair charges and storage.
Before we do that we will try to reach you at least twice on the contact details you gave us, using more than one method where we have one. We will always hand your device back while we still have it — if it is still on our shelf, it is still yours to collect, whether or not the 35 days has passed.
If you would rather we recycled or disposed of a device you no longer want, tell us and we will.
7. Buying a phone from us
Devices we sell are pre-owned unless clearly described otherwise, and are graded honestly using the standard published on this site. Cosmetic condition is described as accurately as we can; small marks consistent with the stated grade are normal.
Any warranty or return period on a device we sell will be stated in writing on your receipt at the time of purchase.
8. Unlocking and activation
Carrier unlocking depends on the carrier's own rules and on the device being fully paid off and not blacklisted. We check what is possible before taking payment, and we do not promise an unlock we cannot deliver. Activation depends on your carrier's approval and network compatibility.
9. What this website is and isn't
We keep this site accurate, but content is provided as-is. Prices, availability and turnaround times can change without notice. Nothing here is a binding offer until confirmed by us in person or in writing.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Michigan law, our liability arising from any transaction is limited to the amount you paid us for that service, or the agreed value of the device concerned. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost data, lost income, or the cost of a replacement device while yours is with us.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Your privacy
How we handle the information you give us is set out in our Privacy Policy.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, and any dispute will be handled by the courts serving Wayne County, Michigan.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. The version published here at the time of your transaction is the one that applies to it.

Ask us before you commit to anything — we would rather explain it up front.
