Find your IMEI

Where the IMEI
hides on your phone.

*#06# works on every phone ever made. If you would rather use the menus, the path differs by brand — pick yours.

The one that always works

Dial *#06# first.

Open the keypad, type *#06#, and the IMEI appears on screen before you press call. It is a GSM standard, so it works on every make and every carrier — iPhone, Samsung, Pixel, a flip phone from 2009. No call is placed and nothing is charged. On most phones it even works from the lock screen. If you see two numbers, the phone has two SIM slots; use the first, IMEI1.

Why the menu path differs

Same number, different drawer.

Every manufacturer puts the IMEI somewhere under Settings, but each one names the drawer differently. Apple keeps it on About. Samsung buries it under Status information. Xiaomi calls the screen All specs. ASUS puts the whole thing under System. The guides below give the exact path for each brand, along with the one thing about that brand's handsets worth knowing before you buy, sell or repair one.

When the phone is dead

Two places that don't need power.

  • The original box — on the barcode label. The one place the number survives the phone being lost, stolen or broken, which is exactly when insurers and carriers ask for it.
  • The SIM tray, or under the back cover — several iPhones etch it on the tray; older Androids with a removable back print it beneath the battery.

Once you have the number, paste it into the free checker and you get the exact model and year back in a second.
